HITS Accreditation And Credit Transfers

Harvesters International Theological Seminary at the moment has affiliation partnership status with LOUISIANA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY (U.S.A), as such the university accepts credit transfer from our seminary. However, HITS has never sought government accreditation due to the nature of the educational services we provide. Our mission is and always has been to train people for ministry. Because of our strong belief in the separation of powers, we have never invited government oversight of our programs. In order words, the Nigerian constitution strictly enforces the separation of church and state. As a result, the Government of Nigeria does not get involved in guiding, regulating, controlling, or accrediting of religious and theological education. Thus the Nigeria's secular government does not get involved in any way in accrediting Biblical and Theological education. There is no government agency for such a purpose. Rather, the Nigerian government, by an act of constitution, has kept church and state activities separate from each other and has left theological accreditation totally into the hands of Bible and theology schools themselves. If you come from a country where government accreditation is available for theological education, or where government accreditation is mandatory, then you ought to know that Harvesters is different because it is not situated in your country and therefore it operates under totally different rules and regulations. Therefore, join Harvesters only after you understand these technical points. In Nigeria (where the secular constitution guarantees separation of religion and the government) all theological accreditation is done by NGOs. However, if you are studying for a career other than ministry such as a pharmacist, engineer, lawyer, etc, it would be advisable to make sure that the school you are going to attend belongs to a regional accrediting association or an equivalent association. In secular education regional accreditation is highly recommended. Join HITS only if your primary interest is in Theological/Biblical instruction and ministerial training. If you wish anything more than that (such as a government job, any other kind of job, government scholarship) then Harvesters is not the right institution. Bear this clearly in mind before you apply. What is more, since no institution can unconditionally guarantee acceptance of their degree by other institutions worldwide, Harvesters offers no such guarantee. We guarantee only an international-quality Theological training with the ultimate goal of training the saints for ministry. We uphold high standards of academic integrity; so high in fact that the quality of the students we produce are of adequate quality.
